Gaming for Good – PlayStation Heroes

Late last week, Sony announced a new initiative that would allow PlayStation 4 gamers to play against professional athletes and celebrities online, with proceeds going to charity. This will be available from March and will run every month, with new personalities being available to play via the PSN. We here at Big Red Barrel Towers like the sound of this and would like nothing more than for this to be a success that kicks off similar projects elsewhere.

With 90% of the money raised going to charities like Make-A-Wish, The USO and The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and with Sony already starting things off by donating $100,000 to each charity, the PlayStation Heroes initiative is a fantastic cause worthy of your money and time. So how do you get involved?

If you own a PlayStation 4 and live in the US (no word on this initiative coming to our shores yet), you can buy items like themes via the official PlayStation Heroes app which automatically adds you into a sweepstakes draw to win one of the celebrity gaming sessions. The app will be available to download on 24 February and will also allow you to find out who is coming to the initiative next, watch videos of other players playing the celebrities and earn badges.

The first PlayStation Heroes event will feature Shaun White playing Destiny. Right now, you can pre-order the app and start downloading dynamic themes to get yourself in with a chance to win. Hopefully, this makes it to this side of the pond and my dream of playing LittleBigPlanet 3 with Taylor Swift comes true.
