Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Announced

After years of speculation, Nintendo has finally pulled back the curtain on its next-gen hybrid console: the Nintendo Switch 2.

Revealed in a teaser video, Nintendo gave us just a taste of what’s in store for the new system. Whilst the video mainly focuses on the new console’s style (which is very sexy) and improvements, it’s light on the technical specifications or what the launch line-up of games will look like.

While the reveal confirmed a 2025 release for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has yet to announce a specific launch date or price. Nintendo has since confirmed that a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the new console would air on April 2.

Persistent leaks over recent weeks hinted at what to expect, and Nintendo’s reveal confirms much of the speculation. The Nintendo Switch 2 appears to refine the original’s formula, featuring a slightly larger design, magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers, and an optical sensor built into the Joy-Con for enhanced functionality.

The console will also offer backward compatibility, supporting physical and digital Nintendo Switch titles.

For those eager to try the Nintendo Switch 2 firsthand, Nintendo has announced Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events in cities worldwide. These events will allow players to go hands-on with the console before its release. Though a Nintendo Account is required to attend.
