The overall amount raised for Extra Life 2013 is rapidly approaching $4 million dollars and I would like to see everyone do what they can to make sure we reach that milestone and do all that we can to stretch towards the even more unbelievably great figure of $5 million!
The generosity of gamers and gaming companies involved this year has been nothing short of awe inspiring. Seeing our good friend Jeremy “Doc” Adams taking Extra Life to these heights in the name of Victoria Enmon, literally fills my heart with joy.
I have always encouraged the BRB staff to do what they can to support Extra Life but it often doesn’t take much encouragement from me, especially those members of the team who have been with us since the Sarcastic Gamer days. I believe that they, like me, are very proud of the small part we each played in getting the ball rolling with Extra Life and it still feels like a very personal charity that we are very much a part of.
That said, I always plan big for Extra Life and the last few years elements beyond my control have hampered my efforts to do as much as I would like to. I’m proud that we could help to spread the word about Extra Life in events such as the Scottish Car Show, but would still like to able to do a lot more. Also, I have learnt by experience, I’m not very good at asking other people for money and in previous years have ended up contributing a large part of my goal myself.
So, in the absence of being good about asking for money, I am going to straight up bribe you for it with a succession of awesome prizes. Don’t run away too fast after the contest details as I have a number of other suggestions for the ways you can still get involved and play your part in Extra Life 2013.
Ways You Can Still Play Your Part in Extra Life 2013
1. Contribute more than $10 to my Extra Life fund and be put into a free prize draw to win a set of Witcher 3 goodies including: 1 x Witcher 3 Cloth Bag, 1 x Witcher 3 T-shirt and a copy of Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 to download on GOG. As far as I’m aware the code should work anywhere and I will send the bag and T-shirt anywhere in the world. At a random point in time I will draw a winner and introduce a new prize. All other standard BRB terms and conditions for contests apply and can be read here.
2. Buy the excellent Extra Life song especially written for this year’s event by our very own Kev. 100% of the proceeds of this song will go towards Extra Life.
3. Sponsor the BRB car in the Miracle Cup. The race may already have been run, but the spirit behind it and the good it can continue doing with you fuelling the support literally only ends when the last person contributes.
4. Support people like Tudor that are playing on the catchup day this Saturday 9th November. Not everyone could make it last weekend, fair enough – but not enough of an excuse to miss out as you can still get your 24 hours of gaming for good in this weekend. If that is still difficult for you then I would like to see you supporting someone that is. BRB’s very own Tudor will be livestreaming his efforts on BRBTV this weekend, where he’ll also be joined for 12 of those 24 hours by Dan from BRB UK.
5. Help spread the word. Even if you can’t spend the time giving up 24 hours or can’t spend the money to donate, there is literally no excuse anyone can give for not helping to spread the news of Extra Life. Find someone that you don’t think knows about Extra Life and educate them – it is a great example of gaming being a force for positivity and good in an industry that is often criticised for encouraging violence and other anti-social behaviour.

a worthy cause and I only wish I was able to do more other than just donate.
