A24’s trailer for undertone pitches a horror film that is more interested in sound than spectacle. The setup centres on a paranormal podcaster who starts receiving recordings that feel wrong long before anything more explicit arrives.
It is a smart hook for a trailer because the sound design does a lot of the work. There is clearly a formal gimmick to the film, but the footage suggests it could be more than one neat idea stretched too far.
