The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your eardrums with their ramblings! On this week’s episode, Kev, Pacman and Dave blabber on about Extra Life, Halo 5 and Legacy of The Void.
This time, they pontificate about:
- Extra Life
- Pacman’s Xbone
- Battlefront
- COD Blops 3
- Halo 5
- Blizzcon News
- Drive Club 60fps in PS VR
- A new Vampire game on the horizon?
- Shout outs
We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. Subscribe here. Here’s the RSS feed. Leave an iTunes review here. It had fun multiplayer sure. But its multiplayer suite was nowhere, not even close, to as good as SOCOM’s. Lets compare shall we?
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 (released Nov 6th, 2006):
Supported ad hoc AND online play
16 players
12 maps
7 different gameplay modes
In-game friends lists, clan support, and leaderboards
Built-in voice chat
Killzone Mercenary (released Sept 10th, 2013):
8 players
6 maps
3 different gameplay modes
Leaderboards and friends lists but no clan support
No in-game voice chat – only PSN Party Chat – so unless you knew someone with the game who wanted to party up you were basically playing a modern multiplayer shooter with no group communication or strategy whatsoever.
Killzone Mercenary is certainly one of the best handheld first-person shooters. Taken as a package (visuals etc).
BUT…its multiplayer offering paled in comparison to a game that came out 7 years before it.

Kev mentioned that the USB port on the side of the Xbone is USB 3.0, which is true, but so are the two on the back.

It looks tidier when you’re plugging an external in the back. I’m using a 7200rpm 2,5″ drive. A Touro. I’ve got Fallout 4 on it and has not experienced any of the reported stutters…. Yet. 😉
Thanks for the show, keep up the great work. I’ve been listening since it was called the Blue Show. Well, it wasn’t, but you get the idea.

Hey guys. Great show as always – and I agree 100% about the SOCOM Multiplayer being leagues ahead of it’s competition. We all know handheld Killzone was a great game nontheless.
Also been listening since Blushow. Getting a shout out at the end of this episode came as a nice surprise – made me so happy guys. Thanks a lot.
Keep up the great casting. I love every single minute of it!
