Big Red Barrelcast 55: Kev’s Negativity

The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your ear drums with their ramblings! On this week’s episode, Pacman and Kev are joined by Matt Whittaker to blabber on about Gold Fish, having lunch with Shaq and Destiny.

This time, they pontificate about:

  • Bound By Flame
  • Dying Light delayed
  • Driving franchises
  • Elderscrolls Online delayed til November
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Shaq Fu
  • Nintendo’s future
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • Occulus might be getting sued
  • Destiny
  • Drive Club
  • Shout outs
  • Bonus content

We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. Got my character (Ogrog Bashdemgud) transferred to Adamantoise. How do I get an invite?

  2. @Stingo Hit up @darkwonders on Twitter (Ellixa Kiero in-game), @SamWrightDPS on Twitter (Osha Amariyo in-game) or myself (Hatatii Yazhi in-game). If nobody is online when you are and you’d rather not use Twitter you can always contact me at PacManPolarBear@bigredbarrel.com and we can arrange a time to get together.

Our Free Company (Guild) is called The Cult of Chocobo.

You can also hit up the following members in-game for an invite:
    J’atoh Wazuki
    Neon Skull
    Reikozu Shattershield
    Smashman Fisher
    Teflon Don

    Cheers for the up guys!
Think it’ll take a while for superhero films/TV to feel saturated: there’s so much more breadth here that can be explored that something like zombies. Maybe I have a lot of free time but generally I’m happy to give shows at least half a season to a season before I give up; it’s very rare any show will start off being incredible. Especially with SHIELD; the character moments in the second half of the season would have been meaningless if we’d not had the foundations laid in the first half. Now that show’s finished its first season too I’ll happily put it on par with the Marvel films themselves, it’s seriously pretty good!
And Kev just wondering what made you fall in love with Almost Human to that extent? I gave that the first half of the season- and yeah I know the episodes were all out of order but it seemed to be a fairly standard procedural that didn’t nearly take enough advantage of the sci-fi aspects it had available.

Gonna be listening to make sure you don’t go back to your old hating ways, Kev! ;)

My worry with Sunset Overdirve is a) Insomniac haven’t really been doing fantastic lately. And b) these games are hit and miss. Is it going to have a Team Fortress vibe or is it just going to be Gotham City Imposters and just be Destiny filler. I can see it go either way from what I have seen so far.

Aurochs; I am someone who was saddened to see Almost Human go. I actually enjoyed that it was set in a Sci-Fi world but they didn’t beat you over the head with it. Something would happen that would make me remember that it was, in fact, a Sci-Fi series. Honestly, it just hit the wrong network. Same pitfall Firefly hit. Good just isn’t good enough. Same with games, why invest on making 125% of your cost back when you can come out with a crime drama or reality show and make back 250%? Seems like middle class of television and gaming are meeting the same fate with indies (Netflix/hulu) picking up the middle class slack.

Yeah, pretty much this. I enjoyed that it was a procedural series about human stories set in a future that didn’t keep shouting at the audience, “HEY THIS IS SET IN THE FUTURE!”

Plus, Karl Urban is a god damn pleasure to watch in any context.
