The first trailer for The Wizard of the Kremlin finally puts Jude Law’s Vladimir Putin front and centre, with Olivier Assayas framing the film as a study of power, image and political mythmaking. The footage looks cold, controlled and more interested in menace than spectacle.
Paul Dano co-stars as the adviser helping shape Putin’s rise, and the trailer suggests this is going for a sharper political drama rather than a broad rise-and-fall biopic. Even in trailer form, it feels built around atmosphere, calculation and the slow spread of influence.
The Wizard of the Kremlin lands in cinemas on May 15, 2026.
