Who would’ve thought the most exciting things happening on V-Day would be game-related? Well, single people, obviously, but this year there’s definitely an argument to be made for video games. Admittedly most of these are from my own personal experience and highs today, but whatever, it’s been a good day.
First off, System Shock 2 has finally found a home as a digital release! And GOG have made no effort at all to be subtle about it. Neither should they, for that game was — and arguably still is — genre-defining (even if it does look a wee bit dated).
Today I also learned about a game being published by the House Of Weird otherwise known as Kalypso. DARK, being developed by RealmForge (previously known for their weird dungeoneering title, DUNGEONS), is an RPG. Set in a modern city, with a strong focus on dialogue trees, skills/stats, stealth and melee combat, the player will inhabit a newly-reborn vampire character, and for some reason you are going up against a vampire corporation. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it reeks to high-heaven of the incredible Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and I am in on any game that clearly takes its influence from that, even if it looks graphically outdated by several years. Here’s a lengthy gameplay demo!
Steam have launched yet another crazy sale, this time to promote their Linux store. This is of no real interest to me, but for those of you wanting to get involved with Steam Linux, this seems an appropriate time to give it a whirl.
The PS4 controller might look like this:
Could those touchpad rumours really be true? Are the analog sticks finally being designed as concave rather than convex? What are the triggers like? Is this the final shape? And what is that crazy blue bar on the top?! Only six days until we find out, I suppose!
Oh and I beat Dead Space 3 today. I don’t agree wholly with Tim’s review, but he’s completely entitled to his opinion! (That game is great!)
This has been your Valentine’s Day News Cast that I probably wouldn’t have written had I not had the day off work! So thanks, work!
