BRB UK 98: Jondor

Pip pip! We’re two away from the big 100, so we thought we’d celebrate by recording a podcast. Like we do every week, come to think of it. Oh well. This week, there’s a surprising turn up for the books – Dan, Tim AND Jon are present (but not necessarily correct).

This week, we ruminate about:

  • GTA Online will (finally) get heists in its Spring update
  • Fantastic iPad gaming on the horizon in the form of FTL: Advanced Edition and Hearthstone
  • EGX 2014 tickets go on sale
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • The ill-fated GAME_JAM
  • Awesomenauts Assemble
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Tim went to Rezzed:
    • Alien Isolation
    • Gang Beasts
    • Worms Battlegrounds
    • Towerfall: Ascension
    • … and lots more indie goodness

We appreciate you chaps and chapettes taking time out of your week to listen to our show. For your convenience, you can simply download the MP3 by clicking HERE or you can subscribe via iTunes, RSS or Zune and stay up to date.

Nice episode chaps. excellent to hear (hero) Jon back again.

Particular credit should go to Tim for the sentence “Not many people have seen one in the plastic.” Excellent use of the English language.

I wonder did Jon see a blue and red option when he was making the decision to donate marrow… Perhaps I have played too much inFAMOUS.

    Anyway, good show chaps.

Thanks for the appreciation guys it’s nice to know my rants are wanted. They tend to go to waste in the more usual comment sections.

Not too much on the fact bombage this week. Only thing that caught my ear was the Metal Gear blue sky thing. I am pretty sure you know but were playing it like you do for the sake of the performance of the show but… The PS4 version has a dynamic sky, so it is generated and will evolve realistically. In the screens it happened to be a clear day, it could have been overcast, it could have been a storm. The xbox version however has a static sky. Its effectively a giant sky coloured dome that sits on top of the game world with clouds painted onto it. I have to admit I am not completely convinced this is down to the power difference between the two systems. Given that they use a  sky dome in the last gen version it may just be it was something they could easily switch off for the XBO to use that extra bit of processing time to keep the frame rate up etc. Putting my tin hat on I can’t help but feel that maybe this is just them giving the PS4 a bit more love. It wouldn’t surprise me to see a dynamic sky in both next-gen builds of the phantom pain.

edit: PS I did have to chuckle at the Queens Gynecologist (not sure if that’s how you spell it but I am not googling it at work). Being a filthy minded git myself I always appreciate the smut though I did have to wonder how your brain connected talk of the queen to that image. winky2 I can only assume it went something like Her Maj, Va… ah…

edit 2: I took that games jam story to be an April fools gag given thats when it broke. Quite shocked that it was actually real!

  4. ^ More of a knowledge hand-grenade this week then, Mr LovePump – and could have guessed by your name that you like the smut but keep the Queen out of it!

Also – the Gang Beasts link I mentioned on the show: http://www.indiedb.com/games/gangbeasts

PC & Mac Gamers should download the latest version asap = )

haha, the name comes from an unofficial competition among some friends back in the day to see what names Xbox live’s neo-conservative system would let us get away withhappy

I am sorry to say mine was quite tame compared to some friends got past the electronic gate keeper!

  6. Zombellic

Cheers for the double shout out, that’s actually the 3rd time you’ve done that I’m waiting for the day that I get the trifector of shouts.

  7. Ridcullys Hat

Excellent show as always chaps. That is all.

  8. Great show guys,

have to hand it to you Tim your ability to blank out Dan shouting next game is sublime happy anyway next subject tongue

I have not touched GTA online/offline in months and to be honest I dont see myself going on even to just try a heist.. I have no interest. MMO’s are always going to suck when you have THAT class of player that just wants to be an ass and kill everything moving, this has really put me off trying DayZ because I really cant be bothered with the hassle. I am a grumpy git mind you so it might just be in my experience haha

Looking forward to see if John can do the double thumb doubt it though lol

Cheers for the episode guys! There was definitely one point I caught from early in the episode; if we couldn’t find some meaning beneath the Bulls\*\*t we’d probably have stopped listening quite some time ago! :p

Or if we’re going down the Mass Effect route, he clearly chose the marrowgon option. (It worked better out loud, honest)
