Geek Speak 99: Oops, Cannibals Have Munchies

Hello there, lovely-lovely you!

This is a mini-episode of Geek Speak that Lauren, Alex, and Jo recorded in Loading Bar (Secret Weapon) just before the big 100. We apologize for the sirens and loud cars, we were in Stradford, that couldn’t be helped!

Otherwise, we hope you enjoy the show, where we ramble about:

  • Defenders Of The Triforce: Zelda Real Escape Game
  • Jo watched Green Inferno, so you don’t have to
  • Nashville

I don’t live in the southern/southeastern US, but I understand it’s a totally different world. The stars and bars is still very prominently displayed in a lot of places. Alex seemed to have the right of it with her descriptions though (re: gay country stars, diversity etc).

A friend of mine moved to Knoxville TN (2ish hours from Nashville?), and her brother (who lives in Nashville, and why, yes both are musicians) and she said that the amount of music going on in the state is unreal.

Odd fact: I seem to recall from some of the old war movies about Americans from the South getting all riled because of being called “Yanks” by the Brits. (Since in the US, we northerners are the Yankees.)

This is SO interesting to me! I’ve never been to the US so my understanding of culture and people come purely from TV shows and movies (which is why it’s somewhat unrealistic and I don’t want to presume one way or another) and from a few American friends who immigrated here or I met at Uni. The gay and race angle that Nashville took, especially in season 5 (as I am now caught up) was really interesting to me and I think were the best parts of the show.
