Big Red Barrelcast 30: From 1 to Ron Jeremy

The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your ear drums with their ramblings! On this week’s episode, Dave, PacmanPolarbear and Kev ramble on about Eurogamer Expo, sleep deprivation, and Steam Machines. Don’t forget to visit our sponsor Insert Coin Clothing and cover up your nakedness by using discount code BIGREDSAVINGS15 for 15% off your order!

This time, they ramble on about:

  • Kev went to Eurogamer
  • Titanfall
  • Xbone controllers
  • Dying Light
  • Oculus Rift
  • Drive Club
  • Several other random titles Kev saw on his travels
  • GTAV Online
  • Shout outs
  • Some lovely bonus content for BRB podcast app owners.

We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. Love the show guys and just want to say to Kev that the theme song freaking rules!!

  2. For those wondering about Dying Light, this was Techland’s Developer Session:

  3. EuroGamer was awesome this year, I got my hands on whatever I could, though I queued for Titanfall until getting to a hidden queue twice the size.
I did get my hands on Beyond and quite enjoyed it, but yes it plays just like Heavy Rain.
One surprise for me was Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Not being a fan of Lego games, the edition of Hulk caused multiple play throughs.

That was me shouting “Hey Tim, Hi Kev” by the way, don’t worry, after seeing meeting you the night previous, I assumed you were hungover or tired.

    Cheers for the episode, lads!
Honestly I reckon it’d be really hard to improve on the 360 controller- other than slow turn and other problems like that, the shape and weight of them is pretty much ideal for what I want in a controller.

Re the steambox, still not really sure where that’s going to fit in for a lot of people. Who’s thinking of buying one? It looks a lot like a midway point between a console and a PC, so will have to see more about the specs and how it would compare techwise and pricewise with a proper gaming PC.

Glad to know Eurogamer was awesome, looks brilliant from everything that I’ve seen!

Dave, you sound very pessimistic about Linux. Every time Linux is mentioned, you talk poorly of it. I write programs and create mathematical solutions to problems using Linux for a defense contractor. Everyone in the office (19 people) uses Linux, but in different ways. We have 2 Mechanical engineers who use CAELinux (Computer Aided Engineering), programmers who use BSD, and electrical engineers who use Mint or Ubuntu. If there is a program needed that only works on Windows, we set up virtual machines with Windows installed to run those within Linux. Guess what, SolidWorks runs faster running in the virtual machine that on normal Windows! I don’t know why (it shouldn’t), but it does.

In case you didn’t know, Sony uses BSD for their consoles. You use BSD and Linux every day, but don’t know it. It’s easier to use, safer, free (as in freedom), and in most cases free ($). There’s a very small learning curve, but you make it sound like learning a new language. It’s more like knowing English and trying to understand a southerner. It’s just different. I’d like for you to try it before making it sound like a horrible thing.

If anyone needs help or would like to try linux, let me know. I’ve been using it since 2005 and program on it everyday.

I have a gaming PC with a Core 2 Quad and a GTX 550 TI. And thanks to Nvidia Driver updates, I can run many modern games at a decent resolution and framerates. Am due a new PC so I might install Steam OS in this one for media and guests.

  7. I don’t have an issue with Linux, I worry how the masses will receive it. There are some people that still use internet explorer and think Windows is awesome.
