BRB UK 65: Saikobureiku

It’s all hands on deck on HMS BRB UK this week, as all three of the hosts have managed to master the days of the week. So Dan, Jon and Tim are picking through what they’ve been playing and ploughing through yet more E3 goodness.

This week, we burble about:

  • Jon’s picked up a 3DS XL and is playing the very manly Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • The Last of Us
  • Tim caught up with Red Barrels Games, promptly collapsed
  • Outlast
  • The Evil Within
  • Watch_Dogs
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Oculus Rift eyes-on
  • EVE-VR

We appreciate you chaps and chapettes taking time out of your week to listen to our show. For your convenience, you can simply download the MP3 by clicking HERE or you can subscribe via iTunes, RSS or Zune and stay up to date.

Three hosts, I like this. Keep it up please.

The Last Of Us is one of those games that makes me wish I had gone with the PS3 this generation. It looks awesome! I’m having to resort to watching a Lets Play to satisfy my cravings for it.

I’m all for a new South Park game, fart jokes are a staple of Comedy. In fact, they trump all others….. I’m sorry, I’m tired. Winded, if you will…

I may be one of the few people who doesn’t actually care for the Oculus Rift, it just doesn’t excite me.

Yeah, the Oculus Rift ain’t a blip on my radar either. I’d like to be more immersed in my games, albeit without the scuba goggles strapped to my face. If they ever manage to condense the tech into a google glasses sort of thing i’d be much more interested.

I endorse this view. Until they invent the Holodeck, I want nothing to do with Immersive gameplay.

      • I mean it’s cool they’re pushing the boundaries of gaming, but i feel that’s as far as this experiment will go. Current tech just isn’t capable of making a truly immersive experience a marketable product. And the compromise is a modern take on the virtual-boy, right down to the cumbersome design.

        • Dangerous Brian in reply to ThaJM

Now don’t get me wrong, the only way to get to a point where I would like to see immersive gaming is to keep inventing new ways to interact with your games and have games interact with you. But until they lose the goggles, you know it just won’t feel right. It’s just a screen right? You still need to control the game using conventional means. It still needs lots of work.

This video displays tech that has far longer legs than the oculus rift, in my opinion. Not sure why they keep trying to innovate the way we see games, when we primarily interact with them with our hands. Why would we turn our heads to look around when a flick of the thumb does the same thing?

Though the tech shares some similarities with the various attempts at motion gaming we have now, i believe it will offer a far more interactive experience compared to simply waving at cameras.
