Big Red Barrelcast 17: Hacker Hole

The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your ear drums with their ramblings! On this week’s episode, Dave and Pacman are joined by podcasting legend, Rothbart, to discuss slapping people with fish and flipping switches.

This time, they ramble on about:

  • Knuckles Dawson
  • Neverwinter
  • Saints Row mod support
  • PS3 firmware update 4.45
  • the Xbox One’s new DRM policy
  • The PS4 vs Xbone
  • Shout outs
  • Some lovely bonus content for BRB podcast app owners.

We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. Subscribe here. Here’s the RSS feed.  Leave an iTunes review here. Download the mp3 here.

Welcome back Rothbart! This episode gave me memories of the Blu Show minus Frawlz. Are you coming onto the podcasting scene? Great show guys, keep up the good work!

I missed Rothbart, and he was the most informed person on the podcast. Dave is annoying and horribly misinformed.

The PS3 had two SKUs $499 and $599 which was still too expensive (it wasn’t just $599). And the PS4 has a separate chip that allows updates and installs to be downloaded in the background, so it’s not a PS3 type situation where you have update after update (without PS+)

Great podcast guys. Good to have Rothbart back on an episode. He should come back more regularly. Hope we are still getting a Sony E3 podcast like the Microsoft one.

It seemed very odd that Microsoft would require an internet connection to set up the XBone, then it hit me. You have to download the update that will disable to DRM in the first place! If I’m right it will not be a requirement in future SKUs.

Good show all, nice to hear from Rothbart.

Great to have Rothbart back on. Frawlz next as a guest?
Dave you’re a legend. Keep up the great show.

I never listened to the Blu show, I never had a PS3 so it never interested me. As such this is my first time listening to the disembodied voice of Rothbart and I’ve got to say, I’m impressed. Keep it up old bean.

I never knew, or knew of, Knuckles Dawson until the page on the site saying he was missing. 28 is too young to die. My condolences may not be much, but it’s all I can give. The gaming world will miss you.

The PS4 is clearly the better console, and cheaper too! The recent changes Microsoft have made do make the Xbox One look better, but not by enough. They need to lose the Kinnect (and the extra cost of said Kinnect) before I reconsider my personal stance on this.

After not being on the site for about 7 weeks it was sweet music to my ears to hear Rothbarts voice.
