Big Red Barrelcast 12: Ouya Money

The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your ear drums! The show might be a little late, but Dave, Kev and Pacman pontificate about video games and video game accessories as usual.

This time, they ramble on about:

  • The Wonderful 101
  • The Fuse demo
  • Nintendo gets “Let’s Play” money
  • Nintendo’s E3 plans
  • EA isn’t developing Wii U games
  • the Ouya at E3… sort of
  • GT 6
  • Dark
  • EA gets rid of online passes
  • And some healthy bonus content for those lovely individuals amongst you that bought our App

We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. I’m not sure how to interpret Nintendo’s claim over the gameplay videos on youtube.

Is it really about the money on this one? I doubt the money they will receive from this stunt will amount to anything substantial for a company as big as them.

The Ouya team seems to be pretty confident though, considering their event will be completely open to everyone. But the fact that they’re sending out requests for developers 3 weeks before the event seems alarming to me.

Thinking up a revised intro with the xbox ONE now a thing is impossible btw.

Yeah I don’t know a single person who on first thought think that EA’s lack of online passes was due to genuine customer feedback rather than an increased push towards microtransactions. Given the announcement that the new xbox will require new activation codes for used/traded games anyway I don’t think they could get away with another purchase on top of that.

Just briefly about the bonus content, sorry Pacman but I cringed every time you called him ‘Josh Whedon’, it’s ‘Joss’ :p

Actually at the end of the episode as well, it seemed like the outtro music was very loud when it came in, made it a bit difficult to hear what was being said,

    Good episode though, cheers! :)

Whoa there boys.  Yes, the new Star Trek had “fan service”, (not a Trekkie, I swear) I loved it personally.  I did think some folks might not like it, but I think that a lot of people have no idea of the larger mythology of Star Trek, haven’t watched the movies, of even the TV shows.  The scenes in question would just be epic and cool, no baggage involved.

There was video game talk in there somewhere too, always interesting and enlightening.  I have my reasons for hating Nintendo, preaching to the choir.

How about a request?  Anyone going to play Metro Last Light?  Any chance of a spoilercast?  Finished it last night and I thought it was amazing.

“Playing PS4 and the XBOX’s out the dooOOOrrr.  Next gen coming soooOOOOnn.”  Sigh, nevermind.

Where should I jump into the Game of Thrones universe? I have the first two audiobooks, so was wondering if I should start with them, or get the books, or the HBO series first?

I read the books first. I really like the TV show but inevitably, a lot of stuff is cut out.

I would suggest you follow a similar route as you actually get more from the show that way. While you will know what’s coming, you will also pick up on things that you may not notice without the books as a reference.
