Big Red Barrelcast 11: A Power Glove And A Donut

The Big Red Barrelcast returns to tickle your ear drums! The show returns to full strength as Dave, Kev and Pacman pontificate about video games and video game accessories.

This time, they ramble on about:

  • The Fuse demo
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
  • EA making Star Wars games
  • Diablo 3’s glitch
  • the name of the new Xbox
  • IdrA’s a douche
  • EA will no longer be licensing real world guns
  • Violence and video games
  • And some healthy bonus content for those lovely individuals amongst you that bought our App

We’d love to give you all some sort of incredible hug immediately followed by a polite conversation about how cool you are, but frankly we can’t afford the travel expenses. So, while we save our pennies, cents, and whatever the heck Canadians use, we’ll offer you some download links to help bide the time. 1. So curious about the name of the new xbox. 720 was popular but you all put it into perspective of how mad it sounds. I think violence and video games aren’t a winning fight. No matter what someone is going to get flak and it’s so easy to point the virtual gun towards something not corporeal. Also I now Dave was joking but really, these kids video game library are the least of their worries and though the past 3-4 generations of parents haven’t been able to discern between abuse and discipline I think sparing the rod is spoiling the child. So quick are we to judge parents to publicly discipline their kids but then blame the parents for lack of foresight when a youth goes bonkers.

I think a happy medium exists between the two thresholds and finding the balance between them is what parenting is all about. Of course parents shouldn’t go directly to beating their kids when things get difficult but they shouldn’t allow themselves to think that rational conversation is going to have an effect on a recalcitrant child either. Just like people hear twelve year olds on mics call other players the most inane of names. They can apply that same logic to frustrating a parent. Just a thought that came to me while listening to the podcast.

Side question: What are you boys going to do when the next generation of consoles are out and your intro is out dated?

  2. Dangerous Brian

I like when podcasts have 3 people on them. Three is the magic number. 3 consoles per generation, 3 Star Wars films (I only acknowledge the first three)… The point I’m trying to make here is keep up the good work.

In answer to Inspector Redwood’s side note, ‘PS4’ rhymes with ‘the Xbox we ignore’, just a thought…

  3. I’m half tempted to leave the theme song as it is!

But I’ll most likely just replace those two lines in the chorus. I won’t know what that’ll be until the Xbox name reveal though.

Took me a while to get round to it, but good episode guys, thanks!

I think the lack of licensing real world arms is pretty much a good move all around. There was a quote form some time ago about video games and violence, which went along the lines of ‘video games are never going to make someone violent, but they may give an already violent person ideas’. Can’t see that there’d be any downside to just have ‘generic semi-automatic’ rather than the specific named guns. Hadn’t heard about the arms industry pointing the finger-gun at the games industry, but I guess that makes a lot of sense. :/

Haha, this is the best post

Totally butt-hurt since my Mantooth shout outs have so far gone unnoticed until now. Congratulations ThaJM for gaining Yoshifett’s special attention. Spoiler alert, you got some Mormon stories comin’ to ya lest you take a ride on the LBC tryin’ to find a Mister Smelly P. (Who’s gettin’ jacked and breakin’ one’s self, who can’t believe they takin’ Smelly’s wealth).

The bonus content (I’m hoping it was this episode) was really good. The discussion of free-to-play games was informative and helpful. Now I know which games to try out first.
