BRB Boom 39: Mysterical

It’s time, once again, to put boom in your boom and listen to BRB Boom. This week, DogsDie, Smelly Pirate and Yoshifett nerd out about Far Cry 3, Sim City, the EA blame game, Mormon stories, Twitter questions and the deal of the week.

Please be sure to subscribe to the BRB Boom feed on iTunes or RSS. If you insist, you can always just download the mp3. If you are currently using a computer with iTunes on it, would you mind heading over there and leaving some feedback?

Why the dislike for people jumping in and helping you out with your game on the PS4?  Am I the only one who has said:  “Can’t get past this part, here, you try.”  Just because they’re not sitting next to you on the couch?

Spec Ops The Line a tongue through the cheek.  Try a tongue through the cheek, that burrows into your ear, and digs into your brain leaving you unable to sleep at night.

I want to buy Yoshi’s 10th grade English teacher a drink.  Or ten.
The first 4 minutes were hilarious, great show humans.

Yeah, I suppose it is kind of an old-fashioned idea that you should figure out how to conquer a part of a video game the hard way. I guess I feel like it reflects badly on our society in general that we’re so lazy and desperate for instant gratification that we even need people to play parts of our video games for us! I have no problem with someone giving you advice about a part of a game, but if they’re literally playing a portion of the game for you, it seems like it devalues the sense of accomplishment that you get from battling something difficult and then breaking through. It’s a feeling that has been nearly forgotten in the last 20 years or so, but it’s actually the greatest self-motivator for learning.

Not to me, but you’re Tamarind so you could post XD over and over and I wouldn’t care. You have immunity to any and all judgement because of your long-time and staunch support of the show (not to mention the cool pictures you’ve made for us!)

Yeah, but this is all assuming that everyone plays video games for the purpose of feeling accomplishment at doing it themselves. While that is a big motivator for me (and you), maybe other people get a different payoff. I know that we have been amused by the achievement system in the past, me not so much anymore, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are gamers currently that still really strive to just GET MOAR POINTS. For this type of gamer, it probably wouldn’t matter so much how those points are gotten, just THAT they are gotten.

Having said that, I’m with you Yoshi, I think that our enslavement to instant gratification is one of our greatest societal challenges currently.

Casual water – standing water or puddles on a course that is not considered a water hazard and will not penalize the player a stroke should their disc come to rest in the casual water.  Player should play from a lie that is safe but does not advance the disc’s position towards the target.
