My face just touched my face.

    I approve of this show.

What is Smelly trying to say when he created this scale “from Rothbart to Dave”? I want to hear theories on what that means.

Well it means that Smelly hates one of them and loves the other.

The question is, which one is which?

I completely agree with you about The Last of Us though, Yoshi.  When it was announced on the VGAs, I raged. Hard.

This is not true. I could have been asking “On a scale of 4-6, what would you rate it?” In which case I would betray that I think Dave and Rothbart are both somewhat meh.

Sometimes the IOS device stores take a bit longer to update. My iTunes store just now updated even though the episode was released a few hours ago.

Great episode as always, guys. Also, I just wanted to say that I’m loving all the pre-recorded stuff that you guys are making. thumb

    Great show guys!

I just started catching up on podcasts since I stopped frequenting SG (I was strika234), and I gotta say that this show is as great as it ever was.

Anyway, on the topic of that Skylanders thing, I’d like to point you to the genre of RTS called ARTS (action RTS) or DOTA games.

Pretty much, ARTS games involve 5v5 teams competing to destroy the enemies base. Each player controls a hero, and each hero has unique skills and abilities.  Think 5v5 monday night combat, but an RTS with like >80 characters.

Whats interesting about this particular genre is that the only two successful retail versions of the genre operate on a model which is very similar to skylanders:  The game istelf is free, and you have a cast of heroes that rotates on a weekly basis. You can buy heroes with points earned by playing matchmaking, but you can also purchase “gold” points in order to purchase both heroes and skins for those heroes. This type of business model has made both League of Legends (the one that got it right first) and Heroes of Newerth (which just swapped to F2P around last year) very, very rich, and I think it has really opened up a new type of way of making money for games that both works and costs as much as the player wants.

So Skylanders is in essence LoL/HoN for kids, and from what you said it seems to be doing just as well as its predecessors are. I would be interested to know if the SKylanders base games is in fact less expensive than a normal game, as that would be standard for the model.

    KEEP IT UP

I was hoping for Yellow to Brown for the scale, as it could keep in line with the doo-doo humor. Tacos on tacos on tacos  as was words on words on words as was ding to aggro to cleric. Pure Au.

Any chance for a Flix / Boom crossover ep.? Or, BRB Boom reviews The Phantom Menace?

P.S. B.G. launched a new search engine with Cash Money Millionaires called Bling (if you a Nwords in Paris, it is Bling-Bling.com)

Ditto to this, the Smelly pinball skit was good. I know the sound capture/ wav files may not have been awesome, but from what I made out it was hilarious. Props to Smelly for the reciting so I knew what the machines were saying. Kinda bummed that the Monster Mash / Twilight Zone (wide body) not mentioned.

Anyone recall a Dino SWAT/ Dino Police pinball with a triceratops in a SWAT uniform by a cop car on the display from maybe 1990-1992ish? I cannot find on Google

  12. Roburt

A game that was completely escort-based that’s unanimously highly acclaimed: Ico.

A game that the director himself said was really fun and got random people to go along with him because he repeated it so often, but the game was actually a horrible piece of s**t: Enslaved

  13. Holy sh!t the thing NMREIGN put out there is scary.  I hope none of you have rabbits.

Loved the show and I love you Yoshi. Proud to be a hipster thumb

Interesting talk about Skylanders.  Hits close to home as it just entered my house yesterday.  We’ll see if it’s the beginning of the end or not.

Yoshifett, you admitted that you didn’t know much about The Last of Us, so I’ll go easy on you.  I think your jaded seen-it-all, done-it-all, persona is showing through a bit.  The Zombie genre open to many viewpoints and treatments.  I haven’t played any zombie video games but are the movies “28 Days Later”, “Shawn of the Dead”, and the comics “The Walking Dead” not worth anything because they’re technically all about zombies?  Nope.

I think Naughty Dog wanted to see what they could do with it, why not?

    Love the podcast.

  16. Ok, I’m calling out Smelly as a provider of thug speak if “N****s in Paris” is the first place he heard “Racks on racks on racks.”

If you’re really a thug, especially from Georgia, you should have heard this awful, awful song:

(The 12th hit on a google search for YC – Racks is actually a blog post I made about how awful that song is.)

The grief counseling bit was great.

It is possible to be a thug and simultaneously limit your music consumption to music that isn’t complete garbage. That’s the kind of thug I am.

Also, you should have called me out for mis-crediting “N****s in Paris” when the quote was actually from “Gotta Have it.” But you missed your chance.barrel

The GameInformer article also said that the focus of the game isn’t really the zombies, through most of the game you’re fighting and interacting with other humans. As for a game that was entirely an escort mission that was actually pretty good, Enslaved! Which only three people played but I digress. 😛

And just gotta say, that pinball sketch was hilarious happy

  19. That song was unavoidable on the radio for the longest time.  I typically avoid that mess as well, but I was blogging about crappy songs.

For the record, I wouldn’t doubt smelly’s street cred.

I haven’t listened to Watch the Throne much actually.

OK, gross. This post would have better been expressed as a DM to Dogsdie. He might know what a clumb is, too. embarrassed

  22. SlapHappySamurai

On a scale from “Facund” to “Lugubrious”, this episode was higher than “Ennui”, yet not as “Truculent” as one would hope.

Holy crap I learned something from this show …….. DING….. Look I leveled up.

I forgot to mention, on a scale of Yellow to Music, I give this episode two raptor claws way up.

  25. Havok83

As far as good escort based game, I thought Prince of Persia (2008) was actually a pretty fun game

  26. Sly25

Isn’t the girl the old guys daughter, it sounds that way with the speech she has in the trailer ?
