I've got a couple of questions from new users about the forum - as some of you may have noticed, there's a few restrictions on what new users can and can't do.

You should also have a read of the BRB forum T&Cs so that you've got a good idea of what we consider appropriate behaviour for upstanding members of the BRB community.  After all, you don't want the shame of being branded a bounder and a cad.

Until you've posted 10 times, you're classed as a 'new user', which means the following restrictions are in place:

  • Your posts are subject to a Captcha check
  • You cannot create a new thread
'But why, Dan?' I hear you cry.  Well, we want to minimise the amount of spam botting on the forums to make life as pleasurable as possible for everyone who uses the forums.

...And, y'know, it's good to check everyone's human around here.  Look what happened with GlaDOS.

There seems to be something odd with the formatting of my posts. When I type the post everything shows up fine, but when I post there's all these extra "enters" in between. When I copy the post to a txt document I see it too. Is there any way I can fix this without having to type my post in a txt document every time before I post? Thanks in advance!

It looks like the forum software is trying to be clever and is adding in the carriage returns for you.  If you want to move to a new paragraph, you only need to hit return once.

If it's really bothering you, you can try using one of the other post editors (you can set this up in your profile settings).

I chose for a different editor in the options and it's fixed now. Thanks for your help!

Is there anyway to edit the title of your own topic?

Only mods/admins can do that. I just fixed it for you.

Probable n00b question here but how does one get a cool barrel based avatar?

I ask because a) I have no artistic skill so couldn't draw one myself but also b) They all look fairly uniform so I was wondering if they come from the same source?

Cheers

Ploogle is the artist behind most of the large barrel avatars. You can request one here if you'd like, but he seems he's a bit overwhelmed at the moment winky2 Welcome the community!

Regarding sigs - Is there a way to get my sig to display properly without the scroll bar at the side? What size does the height need to be to display correctly cos the sig editor say max width - 500, height - none specified.

Very informative. I now know why I can't create a thread. Time to go spam 9 topics

Aaaahhh, I was confused at the lack of any "Add new thread" buttons!

And also why I have to do maths.

Glad I finally read this thread bc the stupid math thing was a real turn off from posting here. I thought it was a permanent thing. Also was stumped on finding a New Topic button.....lol

I am wondering this too. It does cut off the signature if its too big and have to side scroll to see whole thing. Let us know please.

Not sure what the maximum is, but will try and find out for you by either experimenting or asking someone clever (like Regua) That said I am kind of glad it doesn't let anyone post a sig of any size, has got a bit ridiculous in the past = /

I would generally say no to making an individual thread on it. If you wanted to draw attention to it, do something like linking to an ebay listing on your Twitter feed and point people to that for info, via your sig or appropriate area of conversation. thumb

• Gamertag = MightyMutt • PSN ID = MightyMutt • Steam ID = MightyMutt • 3DS Name = MightyMutt
• Ouya username = MightyMutt • ...Basically I might be MightyMutt

The rough sizes for a picture that should fit without scrolling in the sig area is 500px (W) x 60px (H).
