  1. Great show ladies and gent. I have shared my piece on Star Wars on Twitter so I will leave it at that.

    As for the roundup…

Best Video Game – Since its release, Horizon: Zero Dawn has been my pick and nothing has shifted it. Iknew before I played it that Guerrilla could nail the technology required to create an open world, but they also managed to nail the writing, character design, soundtrack, quest design… a truly phenomenal game.
Best Film – This was tough as it has been an outstanding year for film but no movie put a smile on my face like Paddington 2. It is sweet, without being saccharine. All of the cast turn in perfectly pitched performances too. If you have felt 2017 was a crappy year, no other film is better for putting a spring in your step.
Best TV Show – No other show has been quite as impactful this year as American Gods. It is a truly remarkable show and introduces a universe I can’t wait to go back to. The news about season 2 isn’t good so far but I’m still hopeful.
Best Board Game – I have been atrocious this year for attending TtT so my new experiences playing board games are limited. However, I really enjoyed Spyfall – a simple but fun concept for a game.
Best Anime – After enjoying Wolf Children and Summer Wars in the past, I decided to look out for more of Mamoru Hosoda’s work. I watched The Boy and the Beast this year and absolutely adored it. It’s available through Google Video currently on YouTube. Watch it!
Best Book – As it’s the only new book I got through this year, I have to give this to Nexus Uprising. It is a superbly written book but the audiobook performance is equally impressive.
Best Comic – I recently picked up The Infinity Gauntlet saga from Google Books as it was on sale. That is a deep book, but a really good story so far.
Best Musical Album – I’m not really someone who seeks out music so I tend to use it as background noise doing other things. However, the Geek Speak playlist has made playing Rocket League that little bit more enjoyable so I guess that has to qualify!
Best Event – I really enjoyed my brief time at EGX this year. The show continues to improve, despite the lack of truly big titles this year.

  2. stingo

I may try to get back into Mr. Robot. I dropped off at the beginning of S2 and haven’t returned. Maybe the 2nd time will be the charm.

Merry Christmas Geek Speak! Thanks for the great podcast in 2017. Looking forward to what 2018 holds.
