I was reading about Anton Yelchin’s death. Sad stuff. Jeep even recalled that model of car weeks before for an unmitigated rollling. Such a freak occurance. And Christina Grimmie had been a youtube singer for a long time. She had a bright future. Thoughts go out to them all.
Coming from a purely market standpoint, I hope the direction of Xbox is sufficent enough to give PS a run for their money for a change. I like PS more but it just hasn’t been a good run for Microsoft lately. However, the future is looking good for Xbox atm.
Keen to build me another pc now the Nvidia1080 is out. I seem to get about 2years out of a computer before they die on me. Does that seem rather short?
That does seem a bit short but I guess that depends on what you mean by die. I generally spend about $600+taxes every 2-3 years updating my rig. Going back to a full sized tower was a great move for me. I got a really big, if boring, NZXT tower with lots of wire management options and room for any kind of component. So I just keep pulling and swapping pieces as needed. For me being cheap up front has cost me a lot of money down the road. In particular buying a better than needed motherboard, CPU and power supply has meant I’ve been able to do a lot of GPU upgrading without having to even worry about replacing them.
Really the guts of your rig (minus the GPU) should be able to (assuming you bought future proof components) hold their own for about 3-4 years before you start hitting a wall that limits games and applications. It’s those pricey GPU’s and the cost of the initial investment that get ya. Of course if your PC is really straight up dying then you prob just need to either invest in better quality kit or start maintaining your rig better ie pressured air to clean the tower, good wire management, power supply/surge protector and good software hygiene.
Yeah I know what you mean. I contacted the pc mob I use and had them send me a total invoice layout for the years I have been shopping there and it turns out that THIS current pc that died (which I put down to HDD failure) was actually running in most of my older rig that I wanted to upgrade the mobo of. So i bought a new mobo in 2014, a new gpu and a new NZXT case. So the HDD, RAM, and PSU were bought January 2012. It seems that it was about time to die. I am glad that this was the outcome.
