Big Red Flix 60: Oddly Shaped

Welcome back for another episode of Big Red Flix, BigRedBarrel.com’s movie podcast. This week Dave Jitterbug, and Yoshifett discuss, Promethieus, G.I. Joe Retaliation, Lincoln, Game Of Thrones, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Entourage and Girls. They didn’t have time to get trailer trash, but it made great bonus content for BRB app users.

Check back next week for an all new episode of BRB Flix as the gang starts breaking down Back To The Future 3.

  1. That was some lovely big red bonus content! Nearly a half hour of trailery goodness.

  2. Aurochs

Good podcast and bonus content guys!
Just wondering if any of you have seen Iron Man 3 in the time since you recorded this? As I would say that the main complaints and suggestions you made (Tony Stark needed a nice big put-down) were pretty much answered in the film! I think that, despite it being in the trailer and for the epic climax, the multitude of suits don’t really play a massive role.

  3. I haven’t seen IM3 yet. I am so Super-Hero fatigued at this point that I’ll probably wait until it’s out on video (or what do the kids say these days? DVD? Blu-Ray? Digital Download?) I’m actually sort of shocked that these Super Hero movies continue to do as well as they are. I used to work at a comic book shop, and am the target audience for these movies and even I’m getting so far saturated that I just don’t care anymore. Yet these movies keep making buttloads of cash.

Noob alert. How do I get the bonus content? I just got the brb app.

  5. MrSoft

Well I’m sorry to break this to ya JB, but I’m not sure you are their target audience so much any more. You’ve got fairly high standards these days and they’re probably aiming at younger dumber audiences that just want something fun. I agree that the multiple suits thing is stupid and it did actually ruin that scene for me but like Aurochs said that’s not in much of the film. Funny Yoshi should talk about taking JB to the movies with him though, as I could definitely hear his voice during the multi suit part.

The rest of the film was actually very good but felt a lot more like Avengers than the previous IMs in style, so if you wanted something a bit more serious like Iron Man 1, it’s not that. They do however have a crack at some character development for Stark.

As for the show this week, good to get some more Pink Floyd talk in at the start. Two weeks in a row you’ve mentioned Floyd and my ears perk up like an Ice Cream truck just drove by. So cheers for that.

Also, for your information being a big wrestling fan I hear about everything The Rock does, whether I want to or not and he has publicly said that he wants to be in Star Wars 7, so there’s a chance that thing you said could work out.

And yes Yosh, you’re right, Michelle Williams is very attractive. If you haven’t seen My Week with Marilyn, you should. Wow.

On the page for the podcast episode you want the bonus content of, tap the little ‘e’ in the bottom right corner of the screen and it’ll bring up another menu where you can choose ‘bonus content’ if that show has any. Hope that helps, enjoy the app.

Aww yeah, the bonus content was quite tickling in the fancy region. I bought the app twice because I was unaware you could redownload the apps through iTunes when you got a new phone but I’m not going to /faceplam because it is totally worf it x2. My $6 has purchased approximately 10 minutes worth of beer to fuel JB’s podcasting.

Both of theses things are amazingly true. And I’ve seen it. And it was good.

To Mr. Soft’s point, comic book fans are definitely NOT the target audience of comic book films, as ironic as that seems. Do you think most of the people going to these movies that are making “Buttloads of cash” actually read the comics? I don’t, and I think the studios know that.

  9. Great show, and Seeing as Jitterbug finally gave us his thoughts on Prometheus I thought you muight find some of this interesting.

As much as I HATE to jump to Damon Lindelof’s defence there are some interesting (and fun) bits and pieces around the web on Prometheus that might explain some of the issues pretty much everyone had wioth the film

First off this io9 story includes some of the things Lindelof ADDED to the script which may have made it better (and of course some bits that made it worse)

For those of us who have neither the time nor the motivation to get the blu-ray and go through all the extras, I really like comicbookgirl19’s video summary of the deleted scenes and commentaries, and how they clear up some of the issues (especially around the 12 minute mark where she mentions the editors commentary and Ridley’s intentions)

Looks like we may have to blame Sir Ridley for more of this mess than originally thought (and he is the director after all)

Just in case you think I’m defending the movie you can hear me rage against the stupidity here on my own movie podcast’s prometheus spoiler-cast  at McYapandfries.com ;) CAUTION: EXCESSIVE AND UNECCESSARY FOUL LANGUAGE FROM THE OFF PLUS SPOILERS

Interested to see what you guys think, plus this gives me an excuse to to link to this image explaining David’s motivations (via http://www.giantfreakinrobot.c…..acter.html)

  10. Yep, Prometheus is riddled with problems, which is such a shame because it’s a gorgeous science fiction movie. I wish I could recommend it, but it’s just not a very good movie if you give a crap about plot and character development. If all you want is a visual tour-de-force, then thumbs up and dive in, but everything else in that movie is a facepalm. It was a bit heartbreaking actually.

Agreed. I will continue to blame Damon Lindelof, but that’s because I blame him for everything. I still would recommend it because it’s entertaining and amazing to look at.
