Gran Turismo 5 Extra Life Charity Challenge

Extra Life 2012 is almost upon us. This year BigRedBarrel has partnered with our friends from JoyPadAndMe and Playstation Nation for a special charity event. Three teams comprised of three drivers from each site will battle it out in a 3 hour endurance race to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network during the 24 hour gaming marathon Extra Life on October 20th. All funds raised will go towards helping Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

Every competitor will put in an entrance fee of $20 ($60 a team) and compete against the other teams for the overall victory. The winning team will receive the total entrance fee prize for their individual Extra Life fund raising goal ($40 towards each winning drivers fundraising goal). The 3 teams competing each belong to websites/podcasts with drivers from different countries.

Team 1 = www.JoypadAndMe.com
Team 2 = www.PSNation.org
Team 3 = www.BigRedBarrel.com

The community will have the chance to affect this event and make the lives of their favorite website/driver easier by donating to the fundraising page of their chosen driver.

With every donation given you can specify a vote in the comments section on the donation page (1 vote per person) for either:

  • The Easy way = Damage off. No penalty for cutting corners. No weather changes.
  • The Hard Way = Full damage on. Penalty for cutting corners. Full weather changing effects during the event.

With each donation, you can also vote (in the comments section on the donation page) for a particular driver from a websites team. The team member with the highest number of votes will be awarded a 50 performance points bonus to use when choosing their intended car.

For example: I vote for the Easy Way and choose PacManPolarBear as my driver for the GT5 charity event.

All votes for both track settings and driver bonus need to be in by 19th October so that they can be counted and verified before the event.

The event will be held on the Circuit de la Sarthe (2009 version) and will have normal tire wear as well as refueling in each variation of the final event. Each driver is allowed to choose any production car with a performance point limit of 550. No track cars, no race cars and no prototype cars will be allowed.

At the end of the race, every driver’s fastest lap will be noted. The driver with the slowest of these laps will have to make a further $5 donation to the winning teams fund raising efforts as a penalty forfeit.

This event has been designed to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network and for the entrants to have some fun and friendly competition. Please support this very important cause that makes a real difference in children’s lives.

BigRedBarrel is still looking for a third driver. If you are a member of the BRB community, know that you will be available to race on October 20th at 1pm EST, have the $20 entrance fee and want to help BRB bring home the gold, please contact PacManPolarBear@BigRedBarrel.com or via Twitter @PacManPolarBear.
